Gear List
Yes, it’s true…we’ve managed to make it all fit. We’ve packed the bare necessities to get us through a few months. Below you’ll find our packing lists of everything we stuffed into our backpacks. And yes, we will be very tired of our clothes by the end of our trip (probably even after week 6). And yes, it was very challenging to decide on only 4 pairs of shoes (but I snuck one more pair in there).

Hi, just stumbled across your website. Not sure if you still post here, but I would love to hear your thoughts looking back on what you packed. Did you take too much or too little? Was there anything you took that proved useless, or anything you wish you had taken? Carra – do you know how heavy your pack was? I can’t beleive it all fit!
Any advice you can give re packing for South America would be much appreciated!

How big were your bags? Trying to decide how much capacity I need.

Hello David, I used the Gregory Palisade pack, which is about 80 liters. It was a bit bigger than I needed, but it comfortably held all our camping gear while we were in Argentina and Chile. Once we shipped that home, I used the side straps to cinch up my bag a bit and put the top compartment inside my bag.
